At Marcher Stone, we understand the importance of creating a lasting and beautiful tribute to your loved one.

That’s why, since 1983, we’ve been dedicated to providing the finest headstones and monuments to the communities of Wrexham.

When Jamie Harris incorporated Paul Davies Memorials into Marcher Stone in 2017, he brought with him a passion for both stonework and people. Combining these two passions has been the core value of our business. We believe that creating something beautiful that lasts longer than the craftsmen who make it is the true mark of care.

Jamie’s journey in the world of stone began at the age of 18 when his grandmother gave him his great-grandfather’s apprentice piece, a cheshire cat made from the red sandstone of Chester. This sparked a passion that led him to attend Weymouth College and secure an apprenticeship at Albion Stone on the Isle of Portland.

There, he spent three years learning how to shape and carve stone for architectural masonry, working on prestigious projects all over the UK, including the Olympic rings in Weymouth, water fountains, spiral staircases, and various carvings for Green Park Tube Station in London.

After six years at Albion Stone, Jamie moved to Australia where he worked on various restoration projects in Perth and Tasmania. He then moved to New Zealand for five years, helping to rebuild and restore damaged buildings from the 2011 Christchurch earthquake.

With a wealth of experience and a dedication to design, precision, and aesthetics, Jamie returned to Wales with his partner to purchase a business in his hometown of Wrexham and settle down. He has since brought his architectural background to the memorial side of the industry, guiding clients through the sensitive process of creating a beautiful and lasting memorial for their loved one.

Why choose stone?

When it comes to choosing a material for a memorial, stone is the clear choice. The phrase “set in stone” is fitting, as the imagery it evokes is of something that will last forever.

And when it comes to durability, granite is hard to beat. Carved into a headstone, it will withstand the test of time for hundreds of years with barely any change.

We take great care in sourcing our stone from reputable suppliers who work to make this natural material as uniform as possible in quality. Our headstones and memorials come in a wide variety of colours, reflecting the unique minerals and age of the granite formation, sometimes millions of years old.

Each headstone starts as a quarry block, carefully cut, shaped, and polished into the beautiful memorials you see today. Natural stone is one of the most sustainable materials used in building and remembering loved ones, capable of lasting for hundreds of years.

When you choose Marcher Stone, you can be confident that you are choosing a material that will stand the test of time, and a memorial that will be a lasting tribute to your loved one.
